Who did Hood take in Paran’s place when he was resurrected

Who did Hood take in Paran's place when he was resurrected?

"'Of course,' the sister [Oponn] responded. 'I'll look for another, a death premature. Meaningless, even.'

The apparition was silent, then the head creaked in a nod. 'In this mortal's shadow, of course.'

'Agreed.'

'My shadow?' Paran asked. 'What does that mean, precisely?'

'Much sorrow, alas,' the apparition said. 'Someone close to you shall walk through Death's Gates... in your place'"

(GotM, US mmpb pg 129, UK mmpb pg 138)

The identity of the individual taken in Paran's place is unclear. Due to the large number of deaths throughout the series of those associated with Paran, coupled with the vagueness of the demand, it could be any of a large number of people.

Possible candidates include:

1. Tattersail. Very close to Paran, died in the embrace of Bellurdan after nursing Paran back to health. However they did not meet until after his resurrection. Also, she has not died in truth, and her soul now resides in the mysterious child being raised by the Rhivi. Thus she did not "walk through Death's Gates," making it unlikely she was the subsitute death.

2. Adjunct Lorn. Close to Paran, died meaninglessly shortly after his resurrection. Killed by Meese and Irilta. Although her death was pointless, she was a very important figure, the closest aide to the Empress Laseen.

3. DG spoilers: Paran's mother or father. Both died around the correct time as revealed in DG.

"Your brother disappearing on Genebackis took the life out of your father...so I've heard."

- Heboric Light Touch to Felisin. (DG, UK mmpb, pg 31)

The father died after a long illness, the mother by an implied suicide shortly after (ref needed). As a result of these deaths Felisin

(link) was alone, and became a victim of Laseen's purge of the nobility at the start of DG.

4. MoI spoilers: Whiskeyjack (link). Colleague and ally of Ganoes, but they had yet to become close at the time of Paran's resurrection (having already met in the GotM prologue). Killed by Kallor. His death was certainly meaningful, given his position and the fact that he died saving Silverfox.

5. HoC spoilers: Felisin (link). Sister to Ganoes, but died a considerable time after Paran's resurrection. Killed by the third Paran sibling, Tavore (link) . Also a death of great import to the series, since it marked the effective end of the Whirlwind rebellion.

Given Oponn's description, and the assumption that the other person would have died around the time of Paran's resurrection, the second and third possibilities seem most likely. It remains an open question, and further debate on the topic can be found here (warning: spoilers).
