World Map - Werthead's mostly accurate map of the Malazan World

Confirmed by SE thanks to Pat, as mostly accurate:

"Hi Patrick

I perused the map and am quite impressed. It's pretty damned close. The continents are pretty much all the right place; the shape of a few are of course different but that's because they've not been visited in any of the novels. Korelri and Stratem are larger, for example; as is Assail. Genabackis needs to be angled slightly further south and up a notch or two in overall size. Lether is also larger (especially to the south of the empire proper, and Kolanse is also bigger. For all that, an exceptional bit of detective work: congrats to Adam!

cheers

steve"

Is it me? Why does the continent containing Lether have a frozen tundra at what is, seemingly, the equator?

Blame Gothos.

This is just Werthead's interpretation and its pretty old anyways. Lether could be set more north, depends on what the weather is like in Kolanse and such, I guess. Alternatively you could just blame it on Gothos' ritual as Brood said.

Or, if you prefer you can think of it this way...on earth , most climes are dropped a letter with every 300 m in elevation. From Csa to Csb, then Csc, so this frozen tundra could simply be a very high plateau. An elevation of 2000 to 2500 m would do it, hey it's just an idea, of course the easiest way is to blame Gothos.

I blame Gothos much easier ;)

From Midnight Tides I believe comes the answer:

Something of that notion was present in Edur legends as well. Ice plunging down to steal the land that was soaked in Tiste blood, the brutal theft of hard-won territories committed as an act of vengeance, perhaps the gelid flowering of some curse uttered in a last breath, a final defiance.

"Gothos," Mael rasped, 'what ritual do you invoke to answer to this?'
The Jaghut scowled. 'They've made a mess. I mean to cleanse it.'
'Ice,' the Elder god snorted. "The Jaghut answer to everything.'

Any chance of getting Werthead' 11/22/12 version of the World map up here?

If I were you, I'd go ahead and put it up- right now this wiki is pretty much a ghost town. Any action is good action.:)

Florida and Morocco are in the same latitude as Mt. Everest. It's all about the elevation.
